School of Ambition
Introduction
We are proud to have been selected as one of only 52 Schools of Ambition in Scotland. Our School of Ambition programme aims to transform Alva Academy by bringing about cultural change within the school. Our priorities as a School of Ambition are to:
- Increase opportunities for student involvement and responsibility
- Improve relationships within and outwith the school community
We aim to achieve this through the expansion of the use of restorative approaches. This will enable us to resolve issues more successfully by providing those who have caused harm with the opportunity to reflect upon their actions, take responsibility for the harm they have caused and come to a decision about how to make amends. A number of S4 and S5 students have also been trained in restorative interventions. These peer mediators are working with younger students to enable them to resolve any issues they have more successfully.
